Shorthand Mini Chart

Sometimes you just need a small reminder instead of a detailed chart or you have to quickly jot down the roadmap of a tune and your orchestration ideas.

Below is an example of my shorthand mini chart system. The major sections of the form [verse (v), chorus (c), pre-chorus (pc) etc…] are shown with the number of measures in each part. The instrument played (or tacet) is indicated where necessary and any specific rhythms, stops, or hits are notated.

You can probably decode this one:

  1. Good idea. I already do something like this, especially since we have a large repetoire, but you've added some features I did not think of doing.

  2. I've figured out everything but the following:

    1. For the intro you play 16ths on the tambourine for 7 bars and then do what before laying out for 16 bars on the first verse?

    2. What are you doing for four bars on the pre-chorus?

  3. The eight bar contains a specific rhythm that I want to play exactly as written or accented within the 16th groove.

The Pre Chorus (1st X) That symbol is for suspended cymbal and I am indicating a roll for three bars and a release on beat one of fourth bar.
